Steadfast Faithfulness

2 Samuel 8-9

As I sit outside reading, the sun sinks low, painting the sky in gold and red. Living on a small farm, I’m reminded daily that every sunrise testifies to God’s faithfulness. It is steady and unchanging. Whether rains fall and rivers rise, or drought cracks the ground beneath a relentless Texas sun, God remains present—guiding and providing.
The rhythm of creation—the rising sun, changing seasons, and growing pastures—quietly declares His sovereignty. Nothing happens outside His control.
In 2 Samuel 8–9, David’s victories are not merely the result of skill or leadership, but of God’s hand at work. David knew this. And in response to that faithfulness, he showed kindness to Mephibosheth, honoring his covenant with Jonathan.
We live the same way.
Every harvest, every calf born, every paycheck earned is a gift from God. We plan and labor, but He gives the increase (1 Corinthians 3:7). When the rains are scarce or the fields overflow, when the market is tight or the barn is full—God is still in control.
And because He is in control, we are free to trust Him.
Even our work becomes worship when it is done with gratitude. As we tend fields, raise families, or carry out daily responsibilities, we are also tending hearts—our own and those around us.
When struggles come, we follow David’s example—not trusting in our strength, but in the God who delivers and sustains.
The same God who guided David guides us still.
Working all things for our good and His glory.
Faithful yesterday, faithful today, and faithful forever.
