Reversal of Fortune

1 Samuel 25-27

Imagine you’re a teenager working your father’s ranch, passing time playing guitar. One day, a preacher says you’ll be President. Not long after, the actual President invites you to play for him. You gain his trust, rise in influence, and become known across the nation.
Everyone loves you… except him.
Jealousy turns to hatred. Now he’s after your life. You go into hiding, but loyal men gather around you. At one point, you even sneak into his camp and take something proving you were there. You could end it—but you don’t.
That’s David.
Chosen as a boy, celebrated as a hero, then hunted like an enemy. From chosen to chased. Yet in the wilderness, David doesn’t lose faith—he leans into it.
David knew hardship—fear, betrayal, pressure. He cried out, questioned, even burned with anger. But he refused to take matters into his own hands. When given the chance to kill Saul, he trusted God’s timing instead of forcing his own.
That’s the difference.
Jesus tells us in John 16:33 that trouble will come—but also, “Take heart; I have overcome the world.”
We don’t trust God because life is easy. We trust Him because He is faithful.
So when life turns, pressure rises, and the easy way is right in front of you—what will you choose?
Your strength… or your Savior?
Because the safest place you can be isn’t where life is easiest— it’s where God is your refuge.
