Relentless Grace

Judges 9-15

This part of scripture seems exhausting when you read it! The Israelites say they will honor and follow God. Then do something dumb and walk away from him, ask for forgiveness, and God shows grace and mercy and it starts all over again!

What Judges shows us here is that God’s love knows no bounds. Even when his people walked away, he was right there. His purpose was never thwarted.

In fact, what we see is that he actually used flawed and unrighteous leaders to move his plan along.

What a loving reminder to us that God can and does do the same thing in our lives. We are often like the Israelites. We turn to idols, we make bad choices, and turn away from our loving God. Our sin struggles bubble up and we give into them. Then comes the hard consequences. This cycle seems to happen more often than we would like to admit.

But God. God is good and Ephesians 3:17-18 says: “Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is”.

I pray we remember that God’s love is deep and that he is always near.
