Held In Love

Deuteronomy 33

Monday, March 2, 2026 | Brandon Bachtel

Just before Moses’ death, he proclaimed God’s love for Israel and blessed each tribe before being buried in the land of Moab. Moses and Israel seemed to grow in their understanding of God’s covenant love, care, and provision, as demonstrated in Deuteronomy 33:3:

“Yes, he loved his people;
all his holy ones were in his hand;
so they followed in your steps,
receiving direction from you.”

Here, we clearly see God’s affection for Israel. He loved His people and kept them in His hand. In spite of their failures, He patiently and sovereignly guided them with His righteous right arm. He displayed His power in glorious ways—protecting Israel and allowing them to rest in His treasured promises. He was their security, defender, protector, and provider.

God continually kept Israel close to His heart and made a way for them to live in the fullness of His infinite love. Day by day, He instructed them to walk in His ways and find direction through obedience. He desired for them to follow Him as they learned His mind and discovered His heart. The eternal God was their dwelling place, and underneath them were His everlasting arms (v. 27).

Just as God cared for Israel, He cares for you.

What was true for Israel finds its ultimate expression in Christ for His beloved bride, the church. He loves you so much that He sent His Son to be your sacrifice. He holds, secures, and preserves His saints in His hand, and nothing can snatch them away from the Father (John 10:27–29).

As a result, we can rest in Christ and in His finished work on our behalf. We are free from striving to earn what He has already purchased through His righteousness (Hebrews 4:1–11).

We do not rest because we’ve never failed;
we rest because Jesus has never failed.

Today, we take comfort in this truth: The same hand that guided Israel now holds onto you,
and the Lord’s everlasting arms have not grown weak or weary!
