God's Wisdom

Job 28

Where do we go for wisdom? For many of us, that question brings up memories of people who helped shape us. For me, it was summers spent at my grandparents’ house—riding the tractor or working in the barn with my grandfather, fishing together in the evenings, or sitting in the kitchen doing puzzles with my grandmother. There was a comfort and peace about them that made you feel safe to ask questions and learn from their life experiences.
As a child, I never imagined those days would change or go away. Fast forward 26 years, and where do we go for wisdom now? Many of us run to Google, Siri, friend circles, or social media. Others turn to pastors, Journey Groups, or trusted advisors. While those things can be helpful, I have learned through the years that I often seek wisdom horizontally before I seek the Lord. I bring my problems to people I trust before I ask God in prayer and abide in His Word.
In Job chapter 28, we see three sections that reveal humanity’s failure to recognize where true wisdom comes from. Verses 1–11 remind us that people go to great lengths to gain wealth and power, but earthly treasures do not make someone wise. Verses 12–19 show us that wisdom cannot be bought, no matter how much wealth someone possesses. Then verses 20–28 make it clear that only God knows where wisdom is found, because He alone is its source.
For many of us, myself included, there have been seasons where we relied on ourselves or sought answers from others before seeking the Lord. Yet God graciously convicts and redirects us back to Him. May He use His Word to expose areas where we have trusted in ourselves or others more than Him, leading us to repent and turn to Jesus, who is our true source of wisdom.
