Ezekiel 19-21

When was the last time God made Himself known to you?

Maybe it was at sunset or sunrise, when you slowed down long enough to stand in awe of Him. Perhaps you’ve been praying for something specific, and God showed up in a way that only He can. Or maybe you were sitting in your sin, and he made it clear you needed Him.

Whatever the circumstance, God has a way of making Himself known. He is our Creator, Savior, Friend, but He desires to be our Lord.

We go through life much like the Israelites, quick to turn to idols and search for something to satisfy that inner longing for purpose, peace, and fulfillment in created things rather than in the Creator.

In Ezekiel 20–21, this phrase is repeated: “That you may know that I am the LORD your God.”

God continually reminded them of His love, provision, power, and protection, yet it still wasn’t enough. Ezekiel 20:16 says, “For their heart went after their idols.” If we’re honest, our hearts are continually drawn toward anything and everything apart from God too.

Paul Tripp writes, “Worship is that inner desire for wonder, amazement, and awe that every human being possesses… it is that craving to be fulfilled. It is that constant search for life. It is wanting personal meaning and purpose. It's the drive to look to someone or something to give you identity. It's that universal hunger for inner peace. It's that life long hunt for God… we all give our hearts to the one true God or to some created God replacement.”

Isaiah 53:6 says, “All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.” Have you really sat with the reality that He took your iniquity and allowed it to fall on Him simply so you could have a relationship with Him?

This week, take time to consider has God made Himself known to you? And if you don’t yet know Him as LORD, seek Him. He desires to be known.
